A Day in the Life of a SharePoint User

Mike will present SharePoint 2010 from the point of view of a typical end user of SharePoint going through a day of communication, collaboration and "finding stuff". Our SharePoint user is a member of a team spread across multiple locations and time zones and works for a rapidly changing company. They are using an un-customized install of SharePoint and have implemented a simple but effective governance plan.

This presentation will show:

  • How SharePoint can pull teams together and make diverse information discoverable
  • How the majority of what you need can be done without custom development
  • How teams can build dashboards using out-of-the-box SharePoint features
  • How a little planning and governance can make your users productive SharePoint users

Case Study: SharePoint 2010 and Deeley Harley-Davidson Canada

Come take a look behind the scenes at a SharePoint 2010 Enterprise application implementation. It involves a hosted SharePoint 2010 Retailer Extranet integrating with on premise enterprise databases and a phased migration from a proprietary legacy Extranet. See how ASP.NET MVC applications and WCF services are used to integrated on-premise enterprise data with the hosted SharePoint application, and how custom .NET membership providers enabled distributed authentication involving the live migration of user accounts from a legacy database onto Active Directory.

Planning for Governance: The Key to Successful SharePoint 2010 Solutions

Effective governance planning is one of the most important and critical factors for the ongoing success of SharePoint solutions – as important, if not more, than technology. A good Governance Plan is “necessary but not sufficient” to ensure success. You still have to ensure that the Governance Plan is applied. Successful SharePoint 2010 solutions are designed and developed with governance in mind so all SharePoint solution architects should understand governance concepts and best practices. This example-filled presentation provides detailed, practical recommendations for your SharePoint 2010 Governance Plan. Attendees will take away specific ideas that they can apply to create a sustainable governance plan for their SharePoint 2010 solutions.

  • Ten steps to developing a successful governance plan
  • Best practice examples of governance approaches that work
  • Suggested approaches for making governance plans “consumable” by users

One Activity Feed to Rule Them All: Building the All-In Corporate Newsfeed with the Social API

The Activity Feed in SharePoint 2010 My Sites is great for tracking what your colleagues are up to – within SharePoint. But corporate employees still have many other siloed sources of internal and external notifications – CRM, timesheets, RSS, email alerts, system alerts, external social feeds. Rather than writing a unique connector between each of these systems and SharePoint, this hands-on session takes a step back and looks at how to use the SharePoint Social API to design an extensible "activity hub", so that everything a corporate employee needs to keep on top of is in one feed.
